Accelerator pedal

Had a spare moment from all the priorities and thought I would hook up the accelerator pedal.
When I was doing the brake upgrade installation I removed the stock Vogue linkage as it did not have any simple way of connecting to the V6 engine. The bottom hinged pedal also did not lend itself to a cable system.

Having the whole system from the donor Pajero I attached the engine end and the cable seemed to be just the right length for the new installation.

First picture is the standard Vogue arrangement which as with all Rootes cars feels just right :-)

So next I had a look at where the cable would need to enter the footwell area.

What I did here was attach the Mitsubishi pedal in what looked about the right place and see where it needed the cable. There is a 25mm hole that had a grommet in it And the stock Mitsubishi pedal had the cable attachment just to the left of this. Looking at the outside there was sufficient space adjacent to the new brake assembly so I drilled a 12mm hole and popped the fitting through.
Some looking at the mounting holes needed and the exit angle of the cable guide set the location.

So I made a template to drill the two holes used for the 6mm mounting bolts so They would fit and be on the desired exit angle. As access was a little difficult on the engine bay side I fastened the 6mm bolts to the bracket which was then inserted from the engine bay side. slipped on the nuts and tighten. I did make a new rubber gasket as the original was falling apart, stops fumes and water leaking inside the car.

Here we have the cable in place with the pedal pushed aside which high lights the end being on an odd angle.

.
Here the pedal is attached, I moved it up about 25mm to get better action on the cable

I altered the shape of the pedal arm to get the rubber bit sitting in a better alignment with the other pedals

A couple of pictures of the engine bay side showing the rigid cable guide that points the cable upwards and ensures a smooth connection to the pedal.
The run of the cable can be seen which replicates what was in the Pajero.
