Oil filter location issues
This blog thing is a bigger challenge than building the car. :-)
Four pictures of the oil filter assembly.
It wanted to be where the right hand engine mount needed to live.
The engine mount position was set by the mount on the cross member so the oil filter needed to move.I also wanted to be able to run an oil cooler and use the stock oil filter.
By rotating the whole assembly about 3/4 of a turn and moving it forward a couple of inches it is possible to fit everything, remove the filter (with it in the car) and get the oil passages to line up.
There is a large lump of aluminium bar in my workshop 80 x 25 x 300 mm. This will be machined up to replace the tacky piece of plywood that I used to see if it all would fit.
This means that I can use the original filter assembly and bolt it up in almost the original location. Better than running some hoses to a remote filter unit with the danger of losing pressure and destroying the engine. Best of all uses all stock Mitsubishi parts.
